Global Estimates of Modern Slavery

Who’s behind it? – ILO & Walk Free Foundation (2017)

How can it help? – The 2017 Global Estimates of Modern Slavery offers critical insights into the scale and prevalence of modern slavery, forced labor and forced marriage around the world. The report – produced collectively by the ILO, the Walk Free Foundation, and the International Organization for Migration – estimates that there were 40.3 million people in some form of modern slavery in 2016 (24.9 million of whom were subjected to forced labor). The report also conducts an analysis of these figures by region (pointing to a marked prevalence of forced labor in Asia), as well as by gender and by the nature of the particular form of coercion or abuse to which individuals are subjected.
